Ernie Anderson
Ernie Anderson
"The Bear" was an integral part of Acton Boxboro's storied athletic history. Ernie, along with fellow Hall of Famer Burke Allred, was named Acton Boxoboro's first football Co-Captain in 1965. Despite playing organized football for only two seasons, Ernie was named to the Dual County League All-Star Team as a two-way tackle. In both seasons, Ernie played every minute of every game without missing a play on either side of the ball. Linemen don't carry a satchel full of statistics. Their rewards come from a pat on the back and a "well done" from one's peers.

Ernie's maturity and leadership abilities were evident to all. "Ernie is one of our best interior linemen, ever," states a true authority, AB's coaching legend Ed Leary. Ernie possessed the rare combination of raw strength and athletic ability, as evidenced by his skills on the hardwood. The bruising front-liner his senior season led the team in rebounding, was second in scoring and led the team in foul shooting. He was named to the Dual County League All-Star Team and was named Outstanding Male Athlete of the Class of 1966. Ernie saw the ushering in of the McNulty Dynasty and helped form the framework for five straight D.C.L. Titles. Upon graduation, Ernie received football scholarship offers from Boston University and the University of Vermont. Ernie attended Lowell Technological Institute and earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1970. Ernie resides in Harvard, Massachusetts and is the proud father of his son Kevin and daughter Jennifer who graduates from UMASS this year. Ernie is a Vice President and General Manager in the plastics industry whose target market is medical technology. Ernies most memorable moment came after thirty one years removed from the Charter Road campus, when Coach Ed Leary called to inform Ernie that had made the AB Hall of Fame.
