Sylvia Beaudoin Hughes

The first graduate of Acton Boxboro from the storied Beaudoin clan. Sylvia was an outstanding field hockey and basketball player. However, those sports would be overshadowed later in her career by her extraordinary softball talent. Before a 1000 point high school scorer became known as a major achievement, Sylvia registered over 1500 points on Coach Issy Stearns amazing fifties teams. As point guard, Sylvia was a defensive as well as an offensive gem. Her softball prowess in high school enabled her to establish an impressive post-graduate career. As a member of the Cochituate Motor Corvettes women's fast pitch softball team in the old East Coast League (Florida to Maine), Sylvia's team went to the National Tournament every year she played from 1959 to 1965. Over that span of time, Sylvia was selected All-World Centerfielder from 1961 to 1964. Her seven year batting average was .315. As an AAU basketball player for the Natick Debs from 1959 to 1966, Sylvia was selected an All-American 1964, 1965 and 1966. After suffering a serious knee injury in 1965, Sylvia turned to golf where she has been Club Champion at four different locations - Nabnasset Lake Country Club, Westford 1970-1971, Clearwater Golf Course, Clearwater, Florida 1974, Apple Valley Country Club, Chelmsford 1979-1980 and Maynard Country Club 1968, 1969, 1982, 1985 and 1986. Sylvia now lives in Tyngsboro, MA with her husband Russ and her son Scott.
