Jeff Johnson
This web page is hard pressed to hold the accolades of AB's current longest tenured coach. From 1977 to present Jeff Johnson has paced the deck and worn a path poolside with no plans of retirement in sight. Jeff's influence over thousands of swimmers and divers of both genders has earned the AB Swim Program a sterling reputation.
When one walks by the entry to the pool the cacophony of the sounds
of kicking, pulling, splashes and shouts of encouragement are joined by the steady commands of Coach Johnson, armed with the
ever present stop watch and the human calculator in his head. Jeff has been at the helm for 392 of The Boy's Team victories, 13 DCL titles, 10 MA
North Sectional titles and 9 state championships.
As if the aforementioned is not enough, from 2002 to present Jeff has been the head coach of The Girls Swim Team with a record of 134 wins 16 losses and 2 ties. His accomplishments have been recognized in Massachusetts and Nationally: The National Federation of State High School Associations 2016-17 Coach of the Year, The Boston Globe Boys Swim Coach of The Year five times and Girls Swim Coach of The Year two times. In addition Jeff was named The Middlesex News Coach of The Year 6 times and The Lowell Sun Coach of the Year 8 times.
Jeff was honored as The Eastern MA Swimming Coaches - Coach of
The Year six times and elected to their Hall of Fame in 1998 and received their Jack McDonald Award in 2013. The NISCA David H Robertson Award was presented to Jeff in 2005 and Jeff has served as the Massachusetts Boys NISCA State Representative from 1980 to present and has held the same position for the Girls since 2006.
Jeff coached the highly successful AB Town Swim Team from 1975-2014. Jeff has been the Head Coach and owner of The Patriot Swim Club-PS -New England founded in 1992. As if this is not enough, Jeff
is an inductee of The International Swim Coaches Hall of Fame in
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Jeff is a 1969 graduate of Bemidji State in Minnesota and was inducted into The Beavers Hall of Fame in 2010. The AB Athletic Hall of Fame induction makes Jeff a member of The Quad-Squad, a member of four Hall of Fames.
Jeff and his awesome wife Marge, an AB Teacher, reside in Leominster.
