Jan Kapstad


After moving to Acton in 1970, Jan made an immediate impact on AB soccer fortunes. The three time D.C.L. All Star displayed tremendous innate athletic ability with an intense competitive nature. Jan attended North Adams State College from 1974 to 1978 where his team participated in the NCAA tournament in 1975 & 1977, and were the ECAC Division II and III Champions in 1976 where he was elected tournament Most Valuable Player. He was the team MVP in both 1976 and 1977, holding the school record for assists (54). Jan made the All-New England All Star team 1976 and 1977. He led the nation in scoring in 1976 and scoring in New England 1977. He was a fourth round pick in the North American Soccer League Draft. Jan played professional soccer for two years with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. From 1979 to 1989, Jan returned to AB and amassed a soccer varsity coaching record of 101-28-29, receiving Eastern Mass Coach of the Year Honors in 1981 and 1984. His teams include: 1979 Undefeated, 1980 D.C.L. Champs (first time in AB history), 1981 Division II Champions, 1983 and 1986 Division I North Finalist, and 1984 Division I EMASS Champions. Jan lives in Boxboro with his wife Kim, and their three children where he continues his coaching career in youth soccer and hockey. Jan is President of CANO Corporation, Fitchburg, MA.
