Bill Maver
The thousands of young men who played football for Coach Bill Maver will tell you that the wins,
the records, the titles and super bowls are something they are very proud of. To call yourself an "AB Football Alumni" is a badge of honor. What they will also tell you, is that
they were forged into men who care and volunteer, men who excel in their jobs who have raised and are raising families with the high values that were taught to them on the practice and game fields by Coach
Bill Maver.
Fate met opportunity and Ed Leary(ab) knew what he was doing when
he recommended that AB hire the first year head coach at Quincy High School. Bill was a three sport athlete and captain for the Presidents.
Bill was recruited by the Huskies of UConn playing football for all four years and captaining the team his senior year when he was an All Yankee Conference Selection. After a grad assistant year at
UConn Bill returned to his alma mater and Coached eight years at Quincy, his final season as head coach.
The rest, as they say, is history. Bill taught and coached at AB for 33 years, the last 31 years as Head Football Coach. Bill's gridiron greatness has been matched by few other
coaches in Massachusetts football annals. His 246 Wins, 17 DCL Titles, 10 Super Bowls including 5 Super Bowl victories and a dominant Thanksgiving Day record are now recorded in stone. "Maver Rock" stands at the entrance to Leary Field and will be touched in tribute by current AB Football Players and those future
Blue & Gold "Grid Men" yet to come.
Bill also coached AB Junior High School, serving for 26 years as
the Junior High Baseball Coach and 25 years as the Junior High
Baseball Coach.
Bill was named The Boston Globe Coach of The Year - three times
and The Lowell Sun Coach of The Year - three times. In 2004 Bill
was named The New England Patriots High School Coach of The
Year. In 2015, Bill was honored by his peers and inducted into the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame.
Bill and his wife Jean live in Maynard, have raised three children,
Keith, Brian and Jenna and are now proud grandparents four-times over.
Bill's most special AB moments were coaching and being able to coach with his sons Keith and Brian.
Welcome to AB Coaching's Mount Rushmore, Coach.
