Undefeated State Champions
There was the Ming Dynasty. There was the Roman Empire. Then there was the Acton Boxboro Girls Swim Team. Why choose the 1986 teams over 13 other State Champions? This 1986 Team had more All-Americans, All-Scholastic and defeated their opposition by a greater margin of victory in the State Championship than those teams proceeding or following their prestigious reign. Led by Captains Terry Farwell and Natalie Zdenek, this supercharged version of the AB Swim Team jugernaught swept over their opposition like a mighty wave.
Their 9-0 perfect season extended the all-time dual swim meet undefeated record to 97-0. The season culminated in a swamping of Belmont in the State Championship by a score of 297 to 53. This achievement continued an unprecedented 11-Consecutive Regular Season Crowns and 5-Consecutive Girls State Swimming Championships. Coach Bob Asquith acknowledges this 1986 Team above all others not only for their records, but for their unselfishness and disregard for individual honors and accolades. The 8 All-Scholastic and future All-Americans that were assembled on this team, to a person, would not trade their State Championship or place in Massachusetts Swimming and AB history for any individual award.
